Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic announced after the meeting with Foreign Affairs Ministers of Italy and Austria, Antonio Tajani and Alexander Schallenberg in Sarajevo on Monday that the Council of Ministers is likely to discuss the Law on the Prevention of Conflict of Interests today, one of the main priorities for the opening of the accession talks with the European Union. Addressing the media after the meeting, Konakovic said that the two ministers are among the strongest advocators of Bosnia's EU integration,

“A lot has been done on the European path since their last visit,” Konakovic stressed, noting that there are some other conditions that needs to be met and announcing that one of them – the Law on the Prevention of Conflict of Interests could be on agenda today already.

He emphasised the opening of talks with Frontex as an important step, especially in light of ongoing illegal migration movements. He also expressed hope that other important tasks will be done but “not at the expense of BiH.”

“What we need from the EU at this moment is leadership. Not only the talk about bureaucratic processes and procedures. My both friends understand that and they demonstrate the leadership of these two friendly countries,” he said.

Konakovic also stressed the economic aspect of relations between BiH and the EU, noting that it is impossible to find an alternative to that but that it could be improved.

“If the support package is being implemented the way it was planned, BiH will get another billion euro for the support to economy and is getting a chance to integrate its market significantly into the market of the EU, even before the accession. This is what cures our fears from dual pension fund and guarantees the perspective for the young people, and not leaving for the Western Europe countries where they seek future,” he said.

Bosnian FM underlined the importance of the full alignment with the foreign policy of the EU.

“BiH has always been with the EU,” he added.
