The union of miners in the Bosnia's Federation region, Sinan Husic, announced that some 500 miners will come to Sarajevo on Sunday to symbolically, on the International Labour Day, demand that their rights be respected and that they receive an agreed collective agreement.

The FBiH metalworkers’ union members are also expected to hold a peaceful gathering in the capital.

Also, the Solidarity Union in Tuzla, north of Sarajevo, is organizing a traditional May Day protest in front of the burned “Soda So” building.

As previously announced, the Federation of Trade Unions in Bosnia's Republika Srpska region will mark the International Labour Day in the northern city of Banja Luka by gathering of the union leadership and branch unions.

The meeting will convey messages and requests towards the social partners, the Union of Employers’ Associations and the Government of the Republika Srpska, the organisers said.

May Day originally marked as the symbol of the struggle for workers’ rights, and the memory of the protests in held in Chicago in 1886.
