Bosnia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bisera Turkovic, said at the summit of foreign affairs ministers from countries involved in the Berlin Process that Bosnia and Herzegovina will do its best to implement necessary reforms, but that actions with which the EU confirms the country's perspective towards membership remain "the main driving force and means of political and social change."

“Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to be a constructive partner to all our neighbours, dedicated to promoting peace, stability, security and prosperity in the region, as well as strengthening regional cooperation and building trust in the region, all within the framework of its strategic foreign policy goal – full membership in the European Union.

She stressed that “any action on the part of the EU, which confirms our clear EU perspective, remains the main driving force and means of political and social change, and expressed hope that the EU will “fulfil its promise to Bosnia and Herzegovina” by granting the country candidate status in December.

“For our part, we will work much harder on our way to full membership in the EU in the near future,” Turkovic said.

She emphasised that the reforms in BiH must lead to strengthening the functionality of the state, stability and equality in terms of human rights, as opposed to cementing and deepening differences and inequality among the ethnic groups in the country.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkovic welcomed Germany's persistence in making the framework of the Berlin process indispensable in terms of regional cooperation.

“I think that the Berlin process is extremely important for the Western Balkans, not only for my country but for the entire Western Balkans. It gives us a perspective, it gives us a new opening, a new page so we can be fully integrated into the European Union. We greatly appreciate the attention shown to us by the Government of Germany. We hope that our path to the European Union will go in the right direction,” she told reporters ahead of the meeting.
