Convicted war criminal Radoslav Brdjanin dies in Banja Luka

Radoslav Brdjanin, the former head of the Crisis Staff of the Serb Autonomous Region (SAO) Krajina and a convicted war criminal, died Wednesday at the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska (UCC RS).

Brdjanin, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Hague Tribunal, was released on Saturday due to health reasons.

According to the General Manager of the UCC RS, Vlado Djajic, patient Radoslav Brdjanin arrived in Banja Luka in a life-threatening condition and was placed in the Intensive Care Clinic for non-surgical branches of the UKC-RS, where he received adequate therapy. the General Manager added that the patient died at 7:10 am, Wednesday.

“The medical council consisting of an internist, gastroenterologist, abdominal surgeon, oncologist, and radiologist after the examination and detailed evaluation of the health condition of Radoslav Brdjanin found that the patient has clinical and laboratory indicators of simultaneous progressive weakening of the function of several vital organs and organ systems (lungs, liver and kidneys)”, an earlier press release from the UKC RS stated.

Brdjanin, the former political leader of the SAO Krajina, which was under Serb control, was found guilty by the ICTY in 2007 of crimes involving persecution, torture, deportation and forced relocation of the non-Serb population in Bosnia, especially in the SAO during 1992. In 1999, he was arrested in BiH. Since 2008, Brđanin has been serving his prison sentence in Denmark. The International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia sentenced him to 30 years in prison.
