Sarajevo residents, who damaged the plaque dedicated to convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic back in 2022, were fined by 6 thousand marks (cca 3 thousand euro), one of the confirmed the information speaking to Radio Free Europe.
Esad J. And Elvis G., according to a decision passed by Municipal Court in Sokolac, the town east of Sarajevo, ruled that the duo must pay a total of 6,000 marks of which 5,000 to the Veteran Association of the East New Sarajevo Municipality, which installed the memorial in 2014 at the entrance of one of Sarajevo's municipalities.
“I don't mind being fined, but that the state is silent about such things, it's a disgrace,” Esad told RFE, adding that he will pay the amount.
The plaque was damaged on January 8, 2022. The two men were apprehended a day later and interrogated at the Police Station East Sarajevo.
The plaque was installed just a few metres away from the memorial to the WWII victims, on the the inter-entity boundary line between two Bosnia's entities – the Serb-dominated Republika Srpska and the Bosniak-Croat shared Federation.

The Sarajevo City Council passed an initiative by councilor Alma Cengic in 2021, demanding from the international peace envoy to remove the plaque in honour of the war criminal.
Cengic then referred to the High Representative's decision on changes to the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, banning the glorification of war criminals.
