Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) leader Dragan Covic expects that by the end of April, the governments of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will sign an agreement on gas connection via the Southern Interconnection, which would supply BiH with LNG from the LNG terminal on the island of Krk.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Covic said that the Parliament of the Federation entity now needs to approve the legal framework already adopted by the entity government. This will be followed by harmonising the text of the intergovernmental agreement at the level of the BiH Council of Ministers.

“The ultimate goal is to sign an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the BiH Council of Ministers in Dubrovnik by the end of April,” Covic said.

A summit of the Three Seas Initiative, expected to include representatives of the US administration, will take place in Dubrovnik at the end of April.

Under the amended law, instead of the Sarajevo-based public company BH-Gas, which Covic had opposed, the gas connection project on the Bosnian side would be fully managed by the US company AAFS, whose executives are considered close to the administration of President Donald Trump.

This arrangement would link BiH to the Croatian gas system via the new pipeline and enable the use of LNG from the Krk terminal.
