Croatian police file charges against 60-year-old woman over glorification of Ratko Mladic

Police said she repeatedly posted messages, photos, videos and symbols glorifying Mladic and territory then controlled by rebel Serb forces between 27 August and 4 September.

"By doing so, she publicly approved of and significantly downplayed genocide and war crimes, targeting Croatian citizens on the basis of their national, religious or ethnic affiliation and inciting violence or hatred," police said.

She faces charges of publicly inciting violence and hatred, punishable by up to three years in prison.

Mladic, former commander of the Bosnian Serb army, was sentenced to life imprisonment for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. He died in The Hague on 27 August.

Documenta - Center for Dealing with the Past recently called on authorities and citizens in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to respect final court verdicts on crimes committed during the 1990s wars, after several thousand cases of glorification of Mladic were recorded.

Several similar cases have also been reported in Croatia in recent days, including one involving seasonal workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina who were fined, lost their work and residence permits, and were banned from entering Croatia for three months.
