The President of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, said Wednesday that he was glad that, once again, the EU did not miss the chance to miss a chance, in response to today's address by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the opening of accession negotiations for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“First of all, we expected an unconditional recommendation for the opening of negotiations and a green light to begin the real work of organizing and conducting negotiations, regardless of all the uncertainties regarding the future of the EU and enlargement. But I also understand the European Commission has in recent weeks come under such pressure and attack from those who are against the Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina and everything we do,” Dodik said regarding the European Commission's decision to recommend that the Council of the EU start negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina when the necessary conditions are fulfilled.

The RS President added the EU is now looking for additional progress from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We will see what exactly happens, but both Republika Srpska and I are ready and willing for that to happen,” he noted.

Dodik said that he understands that the European Commission, advocating for the rule of law, considers that, per one of the 14 priorities, these measures mean “the automatic end of international interventionism, the departure of the Office of the High Representative and the High Representative and the departure of foreign judges in the Constitutional Court of BiH.”

The European Commission recommended that the Council start negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina when the necessary conditions are met, that is – when a certain level of compliance with EU criteria is reached, said the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
