President of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Republika Srpska (RS) entity Milorad Dodik said today that the explanation of the new package of US sanctions against individuals and companies from the RS and Serbia contains "a series of lies and propaganda tricks that should give the appearance of mafia, network and a financial system".
“These are all lies, absolutely. The Americans use them when they don't have any evidence and it shows that they are lying,” Dodik told reporters at Jahorina.
Stating that the sanctions are undermining a significant part of the economy, Dodik said that 700 people employed in the companies sanctioned by the US will be affected.
“Imagine that America is now sanctioning two media outlets in the Republika Srpska because they are promoting a certain policy. Well, BN television promotes American politics, so why don't they introduce sanctions to them? It's common knowledge that they do this,” Dodik said.
He stated that American Ambassador Michael Murphy extended his stay in BiH for a month or two to “make a gift”, and that he believes that it will be shown that what Murphy represents is not the position of the United States.
“This is not the way BiH can be built,” said Dodik.
Commenting on the fact that the US sanctions also covered his family members, the RS President said there is no evidence of their corruption.
Dodik pointed out that members of his family were the subject of financial persecution four times in the previous seven years, but that they never came out publicly with it.
Saying that Republika Srpska will deal with this “as best it knows how”, Dodik announced that it is important to ensure that ATV and UNA TV continue working.
