The framework also covers those threatening the country’s security or undermining the Dayton Peace Agreement.
The decision keeps in place the EU’s ability to impose targeted sanctions, although no individuals or entities are currently listed under the regime. Measures may include asset freezes and travel bans within the EU.
The Council said it "has been following the developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and can consider using all tools at its disposal, in case the situation in the country deteriorates. The Council reiterates its unequivocal commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU perspective as a single, united and sovereign country."
The sanctions framework was first introduced in March 2011 and has been extended annually since.
