Today, the survivors, families and relatives of the victims of genocide in and around Srebrenica donated items belonging to the victims of genocide to the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial Centre, in order to preserve the facts and evidence of the suffering of innocent civilians.
Families of genocide victims and survivors brought items like footwear belonging to genocide victims or surviving witnesses, personal belongings of genocide victims such as watches, personal documents and other items including those found with victims in mass graves.
Among the objects of genocide victims were documents, diaries, notes, letters, newspaper articles and photographs, audio and video recordings about the life of the population of that part of BiH, from the beginning of the war, and especially during the Serb overrun of the United Nations Protected Area (UN), and in July 1995.
The Memorial Centre says that they will take care of these items in order to preserve and protect, so that they do not perish.
“We will preserve them for generations to come, who have not yet been born.”
These objects serve as a remembrance of the killed civilians, but also as a reminder that these are the consequences of the ideologies from the 90s that rule the region of the Western Balkans.
