Fejzic: Remains of eight genocide victims to be buried in Potocari on July 11

Members of the Organizing Committee adopted the minutes from the first meeting, reviewed reports from subcommittee heads on activities carried out between sessions, and considered the draft programme for commemorating the 31st anniversary of the genocide and the burial of identified victims from July 1995.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Hamdija Fejzic, told FENA that the remains of eight identified genocide victims are ready for the collective funeral prayer and burial this year. Another 37 victims have been identified, but their families have not yet given consent for burial, mostly due to the small number of recovered remains.

''I appeal to families to give their consent for burial so that the victims may receive a marked resting place and preserve their identity,'' Fejzic said.

Regarding preparations for the Peace March, registrations have been open for some time, with 1,631 participants registered so far.

Chairman of the ''Peace March 2026'' Subcommittee, Suljo Cakanovic, said the number of registered participants is significant for this period of the year.

''Organized groups traditionally collect data within their organizations, and during the second half of June, they submit an approximate final number of participants. We expect this year’s Peace March to once again gather an impressive number of people,'' Cakanovic said, adding that there are certain challenges along parts of the route, but that relevant services are working to resolve them to ensure the route is safe and accessible for all participants.

Additional issues important for organizing the genocide anniversary commemoration were also discussed during the second meeting of the Organizing Committee.
