Goran Vesic, the recently resigned Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, is among 11 people arrested on Thursday morning, N1 has learnt.
The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad said on Thursday morning that 11 people have been arrested in connection with the collapse of a canopy roof at the Novi Sad railway station. The incident resulted in 15 fatalities, with two additional victims still in critical condition.
Vesic handed in his resignation on November 5.
In a statement on the social media platform X, Vesic said he submitted his resignation “as a responsible individual” who wanted to demonstrate moral accountability for the devastating tragedy that occurred within his department.
“I am leaving this position with a clear conscience and proud of the results that I, as the Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, and my team achieved. I worked with the utmost respect and responsibility towards the citizens, always acting in good faith and solely in Serbia’s interest.”
Serbian Minister of Internal and External Trade Tomislav Momirovic and Serbian Railways Infrastructure Director Jelena Tanaskovic submitted their resignations on Wednesday, a day after Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic said more resignations are to follow.
