HJPC publishes final decision to discontinue proceedings against Ranko Debevec

According to the published decision, before the Second-Instance Disciplinary Commission's ruling was served on Debevec, the Council received a letter from him on August 20, 2026, in which he resigned as president and judge of the Court of BiH, Detektor reports.

The Second-Instance Disciplinary Commission dismissed as unfounded the respondent’s appeal of July 16, 2026, and upheld the decision of the First-Instance Disciplinary Commission.

The HJPC’s First-Instance Disciplinary Commission found Debevec disciplinarily liable and removed him from his positions as president and judge of the Court of BiH.

Debevec was found responsible for failing, over a period of at least one year and nine months, to comply with relevant provisions of the Rulebook on the Case Management System in Courts in 16 cases while serving as president of the Court of BiH.

The HJPC said this constituted a disciplinary offense involving 'any other conduct that constitutes a serious breach of official duty or undermines public confidence in the impartiality and credibility of the judiciary'.

Debevec is also currently facing criminal proceedings before the Special Department for Corruption, Organized and Inter-Cantonal Crime of the Supreme Court of the Federation of BiH. The charges include abuse of office or official authority, forgery of an official document, accepting a reward or other benefit for trading in influence, unauthorized wiretapping and audio or optical recording, false impersonation, and violations of the BiH Gender Equality Law. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 28.

The final decision was published in anonymized form, but based on the disciplinary case number, Detektor can confirm that it concerns Debevec.
