The Public Relations Office of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a statement condemning a recent attack on an imam in Australia, emphasizing that religious hatred must not be given any space.

"On Saturday evening, Imam Ismet Purdic and his wife, both originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, were attacked in Australia. They were targeted solely because they are Muslims. Namely, the wife wore a hijab as a prominent sign of her affiliation with Islam. Although they were in a car, three young Australians intercepted them and proceeded to attack them. Fortunately, some passers-by arrived, preventing more serious consequences," the Public Relations Office reported.
The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina most strongly condemns this cowardly act by indoctrinated young people fueled by hatred. They expressed hope that the perpetrators will be appropriately sanctioned and stated that such actions do not reflect the will or views of the majority of Australians.
"Nevertheless, the act itself is worrying, as it can be a credible expression of growing violence motivated by religious hatred, both in Australia and elsewhere in the world, especially toward Muslims," the statement from the Islamic Community in BiH concluded.
