Israel is among the world leaders in COVID-19 vaccination with more than five million of those who were vaccinated so far. In an exclusive interview with N1, medical expert and founding director of Clarit Research Institute, Ran Balicer, explains how Israel achieved this goal and prepared the country for gradual opening after the pandemic lockdown.
One of the reasons why the mass vaccination is going smoothly in Israel is the fact that this is a small, geographically condensed country, which made it easier to carry out this campaign, explained Balicer.
Also, Israel secured more than 10 million doses for its population of 9 million, with more than 50 percent of all citizens being already fully vaccinated.
In a short period of time, according to Balicer, the authorities opened hundreds of vaccination clinics in extremely short period of time and secured a chain of distribution for the vaccines being transported from the airport to large freezers – the process that was managed by the health ministry and the vaccination clinics.
The digital healthcare system was also helpful in arranging the smooth process, said Balicer, but in the end, it was all possible thanks to the authorities and their efforts to get a sufficient quantity of vaccines.
