Bosnian meteorologist Nedim Sladic spoke to N1 about the weather forecast for the coming days and the summer months ahead. He predicts a warmer summer compared to the previous year.

In the next few days, Sladic forecasts unstable weather with above-average temperatures.

“It won't be excessively cold as there are no cold fronts, resulting in temperatures above the long-term average. Moving towards June 3rd and 4th, there's a trend of rising heights, which will reflect on the ground. In other words, an unusually warm period will continue, supported by upper-level air currents, but it won't be completely stable. In the next two or three days, the northeastern part of Bosnia has the least chance of precipitation, as the main unstable systems will remain south of Sarajevo and develop in the mountainous areas of central and western Bosnia before spreading towards northeastern and northern Herzegovina,” said Sladić.

Summer 2024

Sladic indicates that this summer will be warmer compared to last year.

“Approximately 40 to 60 percent of analyzed cases show a trend of warmer conditions than usual. This isn't surprising as every summer since 2006 has been warmer than the previous one, with deviations of one to two degrees from the latest reference period of 1991-2020,” stated Sladić.

Heat Waves

Like previous years, heat waves are expected this summer.

“There will be a heat wave with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees, potentially reaching and locally surpassing 40 degrees,” said Sladic.

Summarizing the upcoming summer, Sladic said:

“A warmer summer compared to the long-term average, with generally normal precipitation, slightly drier conditions, but with an increased likelihood of heat waves given the expected positive temperature deviations.”

Winter and Lack of Snow

Reflecting on the past winter, Sladic noted the lack of significant snowfall, explaining that it's more likely (80:20) for winters to be warmer, with colder, snowier winters occurring occasionally after several years.

“Nature finds its balance, and nothing should be surprising, whether it's notably colder masses in July or significantly warmer fronts in March or April,” concluded Sladic.
