Head of the Serbian Center for Protection and Assistance to Asylum Seekers Rados Djurovic said that migrants in Serbia are less visible today than before and that they are trying to cross into Bosnia and Herzegovina, meaning that the migrations have now been moving towards that country. He reminded that in the past the migrants mostly went through the northern parts of Serbia and the borders with Croatia and Hungary, and further towards other countries of the European Union.

According to him, migrants in Serbia do not stay long in the camps and their surroundings, but find places where they “quickly, with the help of smugglers, try to reach Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

He said that this is the reason that smuggling is now directed towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and the largest number of people there pass “under the radar of institutions and the public.”

In the north of Serbia, according to him, there are no large number of migrants because the camps are closed and police measures are being implemented to suppress smuggling.

“Despite that, in the north of the country, on a daily basis, according to our data, ten to twenty people try to enter Hungary, and from 50 to 70 to Croatia,” said Djurovic.

As he explained, these “small movements in the north” are present, but most people are trying to continue their journey to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
