Most of the young people over the age of 25 who have recently left Bosnia and Herzegovina have emigrated to European Union countries, according to data from the BiH Statistics Agency.

“We do not have data on how many young people have left BiH recently, but according to the data of the host countries, the countries to which our residents most often emigrate are EU countries (Germany, Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, etc.),” the Agency said.

When it comes to youth unemployment in our country, a 2020 survey shows that those aged 20 to 24 with a high school diploma are in the lead.

The largest number of young people who have completed high school, college, a master’s degree or doctorate and still remain unemployed in BiH are between 25 and 29 years old.

The survey also shows that a large number of young people who are unemployed (aged 20 to 39) have only completed primary school or are without education.

The Agency notes that these are data from the Labour Force Survey conducted in accordance with EU regulations and should not be compared with data from the records of the public employment service due to methodological differences.

The survey also showed that a large number of young people in our country still live with their parents. Although no recent data is available, the 2013 census showed that 186,090 people over 30 still live with their parents. The total population of BiH according to that census is 3,531,159.
