Herzegovina-Neretva Canton’s Employment Office published an employment competition on behalf of the "Masa i prijatelji" Kindergarten from Mostar looking to employ three teachers who must have "Croatian citizenship."

As stated, based on Art. 30 of the Law on Preschool Education (Official Gazette of the Croatian Civil Code, 5/2000), the Administrative Council of the Masa Kindergarten is looking to fill a temporary position demanding the following conditions: completed undergraduate university studies or professional studies for pre-school teachers, i.e. completed graduate university studies or specialist studies for educators, legal age, CROATIAN CITIZENSHIP, health capacity to perform the duties of the workplace to which the person is employed.

Those interested in the position are also required to submit: a CV, diploma of completed professional training, certificate of citizenship, certificate of passed professional exam and a copy of the identity card.

The advertisement triggered negative comments, some of which are that it is “shocking” and that it causes “segregation.”

It should be noted that on the page of the cantonal Employment Office in Mostar, where the disputed ad was published, noted that “the ad was taken from other advertising sources.” “The Employment Office is not responsible for statements from the ad, changes and additions during the duration of the ad, nor errors that occurred during the transmission of the ad text.”

Unfortunate mistake

Soon after the publishing of the news a reaction from this Mostar kindergarten followed. More precisely the owner and director, Jasna Coric, who commented on the case for Faktor media outlet.

She stated that the mistake of asking for Croatian citizenship occurred when she downloaded an example ad from the internet.

“I searched the internet for what the ad looked like, found it, took it and published it. An error crept up on me, I didn't review it well. All ethnicities work in our kindergarten. We also have Bosniaks, Orthodox, we are a small Yugoslavia. Ajla, Anita, Katarina are our employees. I will withdraw the ad tomorrow, correct it and publish another one”, said Coric.
