OHR: Bosnian authorities must address BHRT's most urgent challenges

The OHR stressed that, alongside these issues requiring immediate resolution, it is equally important for authorities at all levels to address other systemic problems by establishing mechanisms that will ensure the long-term financial sustainability not only of BHRT but of the entire public broadcasting system.

“We also expect all three public broadcasters – including BHRT – to assume responsibility for internal restructuring and efficiency as one of the measures that will enable financing in line with the objective needs of each service. Specifically, long-term financial sustainability requires not only political decisions but also serious reforms within the public broadcasting system itself,” the OHR said.

Ensuring political independence and securing stable financing for the public broadcasting system are key steps for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path toward the European Union.

“As far as we know, Minister (Edin) Forto has been very active in addressing this issue,” the OHR added.
