The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Political Affairs Committee meeting in Paris recommended that Kosovo be invited to become a member of the Council of Europe (CoE).
The information was posted by PACE on the X social media network.
Kosovo Deputy Foreign Minister Kreshnik Ahmeti confirmed in a post on Facebook that the vote in the PACE Political Affairs Committee was successful for Kosovo.
“The opinion of Rapporteur Bakoyannis has just been approved by the Council of Europe Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy. This opinion recommends Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe without any additional conditions. None of the commitments Kosovo must undertake are required to be realized before membership,” wrote Ahmeti.
He added that all proposals to set new conditions have been rejected by most Committee members, which indicates that Kosovo should become a member in May this year and that new conditions would be unfair.
Ahmeti said the opinion requests the removal of the Kosovo footnote and recommends that Kosovo be invited as a state, not as a country.
The next step is a plenary debate – due on 18th April – and a vote by the full Assembly on its statutory Opinion, said PACE in the post on X.
