Photojournalist Motaz Azaiza, whose photos from the war-torn Gaza Strip have travelled the world, depicting the suffering of the people there, recently stayed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During his stay, he participated in a conference on genocide and visited the Srebrenica Memorial Centre, on the day of commemoration of the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. Azaiza also talked about his experience with N1. He addressed his followers on Monday with an emotional message after the end of the visit.
“I had the opportunity to be in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to visit Srebrenica. I spoke about the suffering of my people and explored the parallels between the unfolding genocide in my homeland, Gaza, by the Israeli occupation, and the infamous Srebrenica massacre in an international session titled ‘From the Balkans to Gaza: A Critical Examination of Genocide,’ Azaiza wrote.
He recalled that Bosniaks and Palestinians shared the same pain and anguish.
“I was overwhelmed by the love of the Bosnian people, their support for the Palestinian cause, and their solidarity with us. Thank you all for this love,” the photojournalist added.
“Just as there was some form of justice after the Srebrenica genocide, I will not stop showing the world our truth—that we are human beings asking for our freedom—and speaking about Gaza and Palestine until there is justice and peace for my people.”
Justice is yet to come, Azaiza concluded.
