The position of the European Union is that one cannot question the fact that genocide was committed in Srebrenica and there cannot be any denial or relativization of genocide, said Peter Stano, spokesperson for the European Commission, in Brussels on Tuesday.
Answering the journalists’ questions, Stano noted that “the European Union is not a UN member with the right to vote and it is not the one that should make comments.”
“But when it comes to the genocide in Srebrenica, the position of the European Union and its institutions is very clear and it has been made known every time on that day of that terrible event in European history,” he said.
The spokesperson added that “whether genocide was committed in Srebrenica or not is not a matter of opinion, because the decisions of the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and other bodies, the International Court of Justice, clearly showed in 2007 that genocide was committed in Srebrenica.”
“Therefore, everyone must accept and respect it, and there is no place in Europe for those who would question it,” Stano concluded.
