The Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina are a symbol of Bosnia's statehood and the largest integration factor in BiH, defence minister Zukan Helez said on Thursday at a ceremony marking the 18th anniversary of the Bosnian military.
“As you know, today marks the 18th anniversary of the AF BiH. It is no secret that the Armed Forces of BiH were born out of three armies that were in conflict. Today, when you think of it you cannot but see how this is an integration factor of the Bosnian society. Today we mark another ceremony and celebration and that is an EU donation of 20 million euros for the assistance to the Demining battalion – in 34 ambulance cars,” said Helez.
The minister also announced securing better conditions for the Armed Forces members in terms of salaries.
Zeljko Komsic, the Bosnia Presidency Chairman, also addressed the ceremony, expressing hope for better standards within the Armed Forces.
He stressed that the Bosnian military has always been only praised and that they are likely the best segment of the BiH society.
“I told them so, I have the right to say I am proud of them. They are one of, if not the best segments of the BiH society. The way they are operating show that great things, which sometimes feel like a miracle in the political circumstances of BiH, can be done. We in BiH have a reason to be proud and happy with our girls and boys in the AF BiH,” Komsic said.
As some of the bright examples of the BiH AF engagement, he mentioned the participation in rescue mission in Turkey and the assistance in Slovenia following the recent floods.
