The railway line in Donja Jablanica, damaged during the disastrous flooding in October 2024, is on track for completion within two weeks, according to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Railways and contractors.

The railway connecting the southern Croatian Port of Ploce with industrial companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected to resume operations soon, easing the current pressure on roads where cargo is being transported by lorries.

The restoration work is being carried out by Turkish company Cengiz Insaat, which has volunteered to repair the heavily damaged section of the railway free of charge.

Reports from the field indicate that additional resources and equipment have been deployed to accelerate the project and re-establish this critical transportation link as soon as possible.

Workers are currently laying sleepers and tracks, supported by heavy machinery used to level the railway line.

The restoration of the railway is vital for normalising train traffic, which was disrupted by the floods. This disruption has caused significant damage to the Port of Ploce and the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The resumption of railway transport is expected to reduce costs significantly and facilitate the movement of goods for businesses reliant on the connection to the Port of Ploce.
