The delegation from Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity laid flowers and lit candles for the Yugoslav National Army (JNA) soldiers on Wednesday who died on May 3 following a shooting during the withdrawal of their forces from Sarajevo. The RS delegation also included Stasa Kosarac, the BiH Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Minister, Nenad Nesic, the country’s Minister of Security, Nenad Stevandic, the Speaker of the RS National Assembly of Republika Srpska and others.
Danijel Egic, Republika Srpska's Minister of Welfare and Veterans’ Protection said that they had come to pay their respects to “innocent victims of the Yugoslav National Army who were killed on this day”.
“Although this column did not have an attacking character, instead it had a defensive position while moving and had assurances from the then President of the Presidency, Alija Izetbegovic, and was under the protection of UNPROFOR, to pass peacefully through this street and leave Sarajevo, it was still attacked and a terrible criminal thing happened. Several members of the Yugoslav National Army were killed. No one has yet been held accountable for this crime. We will insist that someone is held accountable and we will stand up for all those who committed crimes and killed innocent soldiers and civilians to be brought to justice”, Egic said.
Nenad Stevandic pointed out that they always call for reconciliation, peace and mutual respect, but that this is only possible if all victims are equal.
“All victims are the same and there is no difference, this is the only thing that makes sense for the future. We will continue to fight for the equality of the RS, but also for the equality of the victims,” he said.
“There are decisions of the RS National Assembly that provide every RS citizen the right to have their own opinion on everything, and scientific debate cannot be prohibited, neither about Srebrenica nor about Dobrovoljacka, nor can it be called some kind of ideology from the fact that one people is incriminated, but another is freed,” Stevandic concluded.
