Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karic has threatened with cancelling the cooperation with the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, if it goes through with the plan to arrange friendly game with Russia, as announced on Friday. Pročitaj više
“Sarajevo, the city which was under the aggressor's siege for the longest period, and I as the mayor, strongly condemn the Football Association's decision to play the friendly game with Russia,” Karic said.
She stressed it was a “moral duty” of the Bosnia's football authority, the coaching staff and players to reject playing this game.
The mayor assessed that accepting Russia's offer would discredit the country, because it would mean playing with the national team that is under the UEFA and FIFA sanctions.
“If the decision is not changed, the City will cancell the cooperation with the Association, which has so far been quality,” she underlined.
BiH Football Association's emergency committee accepted Russia's offer for a friendly game in November with five votes in favour and one against. UEFA, which previously suspended Russian national teams from its competitions, said it has no competency over this kind of competition.
