The Sarajevo Zoo, Pionirska Dolina (Pioneer Valley) is now home to two Yellow-cheeked gibbons (Nomascus gabriellae) and according to the program of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), Bosnia and Herzegovina became one of the 20 countries in the world that participate in the protection of animals that are on the verge of extinction in their natural habitats.

“It is a great and very important recognition, but also an obligation if we take into account the fact that of the regional countries, only Slovenia, ie the zoo from Ljubljana, participates in this program of this protected species,” the public company running the zoo said, adding that the two animals arrived from Slovenia.

The two gibbons, a 10-year-old male and a two-year-old female, will be kept in a modern facility that was built last summer and made suitable for them.
