The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, met on Thursday with the newly appointed Ambassador of the European Union, Luigi Soreca, and the topic of the conversation was BiH's path towards EU membership.

Schmidt expressed a warm welcome to the new ambassador and his best wishes for a successful mission in Bosnia, the Office of the High Representative announced.

Also, the High Representative emphasized the importance of close cooperation with the international community in order to strengthen and speed up the process of Bosnia’s accession to the EU.

Soreca was named as head of the European Union Delegation to BiH after the Austrian diplomat, Johann Sattler, ended his mandate.

When handing over credentials to the BiH Presidency Chair, Denis Becirovic, he said that it is a great privilege to be in BiH.

“My work on representing the EU in BiH and working with the citizens and authorities of BiH for BiH’s accession to the EU officially begins now. It is a great privilege to be here. I am looking forward to our joint work”, Soreca said.
