The leader of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) Milan Milicevic said that the decision by the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC), which did not approve the registration of the party for the upcoming local elections, is “shameful”. He said that the party will participate in the election.

“Each CEC member who raised his hand in favor of this decision should be ashamed of that decision and think carefully about how they will face the citizens,” said Milicevic at a press conference in Banjaluka.

“Behind this is a conscious, intentional or unintentional activity that led to this and which arose in relation to OFAC, that is, the USA, OHR and the authorities in the Republic of Srpska,” said Milicevic.

He pointed out that in the earlier period, the previous leadership of the party did not see a problem with the fact that the SDS was blacklisted by the US, but that the current leadership initiated the procedure to change this.

“What is this leading to and what is the idea of the person or team working on this? What is the ultimate goal – to destroy the SDS or to destroy the Republic of Srpska at the same time”, Milicevic said.

According to the SDS, the CEC's decision is an attack on democracy. Milicevic said the party will use the opportunity to appeal within 48 hours.

In order to ensure participation in the elections, SDS also sent applications for the new political entity SDS Will of the People, but that application is not complete, according to a statement by the CEC. The party was given a deadline of 48 hours to supplement the application.
