Serbia invests €115,115 dinars in combat platforms

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Milos Vucevic attended Thursday the signing of contracts between the Defense Ministry and the Yugoimport-SDPR public company for the procurement and modernization of 92 complex combat platforms for the Serbian Armed Forces (SAF), worth approximately 13.5 billion dinars, or €115,115 (1 euro – 117 dinars). Head of the Ministry’s Defense Technologies Department, Material Resources Sector, Brigadier General Slavko Rakic signed two contracts with Yugoimport-SDPR representatives, while Colonel Dragan Panic from the Procurement and Sales Department, Material Resources Sector, signed three contracts with the company, said the Defense Ministry in a press release.

In addition to the main contractor, more than 20 subcontractors will be involved in the production, some of which are from the Serbian Defense Industry, as well as subcontractors who have the capabilities needed to respond to modern requirements in terms of quality and delivery deadlines, said the Ministry.

“The domestic defense industry is growing and developing and at the same time is a strong and reliable partner of the Serbian Armed Forces and national economy as a whole. The Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces seek to continue equipping themselves with modern weapons and military equipment, which are the fruits of domestic development, produced in the facilities of domestic manufacturers,” said the press release.

The Ministry added that, over the past few years, with considerable support from the Serbian Government, conditions have been created for the production of modern weapons and military equipment for the Serbian Armed Forces, business has picked up and the country’s status as a regional leader in weapons and military equipment production has been confirmed.

The signing ceremony was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defense Nemanja Starovic, Assistant Minister for Material Resources Nenad Miloradovic, heads of the cabinets of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Zarko Micin and Brigadier General Goran Momcilovic, representatives of the Defense Ministry, SAF, Serbian Defense Industry Group and subcontractors.
