“General Mladic was a general, and the protocols are clear. His role is also well known, and everything General Mladic is entitled to will certainly be observed. I would point out that Republika Srpska is not the one making the decision here. His family will decide where he will be buried,” Vujic told ATV.

“We expect the Mechanism to provide us with a timeframe and inform us of the procedures and the steps we need to take. We are ready - if they told us to come tomorrow morning, we would be in The Hague to collect General Mladic’s body,” Vujic said.

Mladic was sentenced to life imprisonment by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) for the Srebrenica genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He served as commander of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Main Staff from 1992 to 1996. He was arrested in Serbia in May 2011 and subsequently extradited to the Hague Tribunal.

In 2021, the Appeals Chamber of the Mechanism affirmed his convictions and sentence.
