Serbian hacker's Croatian accomplice arrested over cyberattack on Zagreb-based entity

The Serbian suspect, who is in pre-trial detention, has also been found to have caused damage to a Zagreb citizens' association through a serious cybercrime, police said on Wednesday.

"The Croatian suspect was handed over to the detention supervisor within the statutory deadline, while a criminal complaint was filed with the Zagreb County State Attorney's Office," the police said, adding that the Serbian suspect remains in prison in Zagreb.

The Serbian national is suspected of having illegally accessed the computer systems of several Croatian ministries, public institutions and companies, reportedly using servers in Europe and Central America and an internet address in Serbia.

Police arrested him in late July on suspicion of serious offences against computer systems, programs and data, as well as the unauthorised use of personal data. Searches of premises, vehicles and electronic devices were conducted under court warrants, resulting in the seizure of items and digital data believed to be linked to the offences.

Unofficial reports said the suspect had also been involved in testing computer-system security.
