Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on Tuesday accused N1 of trying to undermine efforts to vaccinate the country’s population by reporting that one of the inoculation centers in New Belgrade was not open.
An N1 reporter found a number of people in front of the Belexpo center in New Belgrade on Tuesday morning, waiting for the inoculation center to open. Several people said they had also been scheduled for vaccination on Tuesday.
One of the people in the crowd said in a live report that his mother was scheduled to be vaccinated that morning but that the center was not open.
N1 contacted the government e-administration (eUprava) department in charge of scheduling inoculation and was told that the Belexpo centre was not supposed to be open on Tuesday, the second day of the Serbian statehood holiday. The sources at the department said that no summons for inoculation had been sent out for Tuesday at the centre.
Brnabic called a news conference for 5:00 pm to deny the N1 report. She said that the man who spoke to N1 live was wrong and that she had the summons checked and found that it was for Wednesday. Brnabic said that N1 had done the report which was carried by many other media in an attempt to undermine the vaccination effort.
Asked by an N1 reporter what proof she had that this was a deliberate attempt to undermine the vaccination, Brnabic said that the proof was the fact that N1 did not demand to see the SMS message confirming the date and time scheduled for vaccination. She also claimed that N1 waited several hours before contacting eUprava and added that she ordered that department’s officials not to speak to the media on the record.
