Serbian Prime Minister and former Novi Sad Mayor Milos Vucevic said he will insist on accountability for the collapse of the concrete roof at the city’s railway station which resulted in deaths and injuries.
“This is one of the most difficult days in the post-war history of Novi Sad and a terrible tragedy,” he told reporters at the railway station.
He said that the people responsible had to warn the authorities that repairs were needed.
“Even though this is a roof that was built 60 years ago, we will insist on finding the people responsible and holding accountable the people who had to have taken care of the state of the roof and had to inform the authorities that repairs were needed,” he said.
According to local media, the reconstruction of the railway station, including work on the roof was done while Vucevic was mayor of the biggest city in Serbia’s northern Vojvodina province.
