The transplant team of the Tuzla University Clinical Center (UCC) successfully performed kidney and two cornea transplants.

The Tuzla University Clinical Center management expressed its immense gratitude to the family that gave their consent for organ donation, as well as to the entire multidisciplinary team of this institution that participated in the explantation and transplantation of organs.

“Transplantation medicine is one of the priority projects at the University Clinical Center Tuzla. This month marks the 25th anniversary of the first kidney transplant performed at UCC Tuzla. Today, in our institution, relative, cadaveric and spousal kidney transplants are performed. We are the leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina in terms of the number of kidney, liver and corneal transplants performed, and for us the transplantation project is extremely important, because in addition to offering patients a new chance for life, we are working on the improvement and development of transplantation, as well as all other medical procedures,” the director of the UCC Tuzla, Sekib Umihanic, who on this occasion thanked the family of the donor who found strength in the most difficult moments and gave consent for organ donation.

He also expressed his gratitude to all the employees who contributed to the organization and implementation of organ transplantation.

In addition to the multidisciplinary team of doctors for explantation and transplantation from the Clinic for Urology, the Clinic for Eye Diseases and the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Reanimation, UCC Tuzla also possesses expert teams of the Polyclinic for Transfusion, the Polyclinic for Laboratory Diagnostics, the Hospital Pharmacy and Institute for Psychological and Social Protection.
