The usually quiet Sarajevo neighbourhood of Sirokaca is reeling after a devastating fire claimed three lives last night. The blaze, which erupted around 10:30 pm, left the community in shock and mourning, as the remains of two men and one woman were discovered in the charred ruins. While the investigation is ongoing, early reports suggest a grim backdrop of familial strife and violence.
Speaking to N1, neighbours revealed that the fire was preceded by a fierce altercation and explosions. One resident recounted a history of violent disputes between the family members involved, specifically pointing to a bitter feud between two brothers.
“A year ago, the older brother was beaten so severely that he lost an eye and could no longer walk. He had warned that it wasn’t over yet,” the neighbour recalled. “Last night, it finally erupted again, but I never imagined it would end so tragically.”
The sense of insecurity in the community is palpable. Many residents are now voicing concerns about their safety, citing the lack of police presence as a significant issue.
“We live in fear for our youth. There's no adequate policing in this settlement,” one neighbour lamented. Another added, “The system and society aren't doing enough to ensure our safety. There needs to be more proactive measures at the grassroots level.”
Reports of gun threats have further intensified the residents’ unease. Although the identities of the victims are still being confirmed due to the severity of their burns, unofficial sources indicate that the fatalities include two men and one woman.
As the authorities continue their investigation, the Sirokaca neighbourhood is left grappling with the aftermath of a tragedy that has not only destroyed a home but has also exposed the deeper fractures within the community.
