Veronika Moskvychova, fled Ukraine in March last year when Russia invaded her country, finding a shelter in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Ukrainian and her son are currently staying in a hotel in Sarajevo, which the government of Bosnia's Federation entity rents for the refugees from the war torn country.
“It all started on February 24, and on March 9 we arrived in Bosnia,” she told N1.
Moskvychova described the first days of the war in Ukraine, stressing that it was a hard period.
“There was shelling almost every day. It was very hard, especially for my child,” she said.
When Moskvychova arrive in Sarajevo she had a hard time as she had no single acquaintance there.
“It was difficult to go to a store, pharmacy. I spoke in English, but my knowledge of English was poor. It is much easier now”, she said.
Her life changed overnight.
“It all ended in one day and I started over. I am learning Bosnian, they can understand me now. I am enjoying my life as much as I can,” said the Ukrainian.
Moskvycheva's parents and sister are still in Ukraine, and are faced with the perils of war every day.
New life in Bosnia
The Ukrainian and her son have a new life in Sarajevo, where she started a new job.
It was my first day at work yesterday. I work as a construction engineer,” she said.
Her son, who goes to kindergarten, struggled with consequences of the war but they are both in a better place than they were in the beginning when they fled Ukraine and arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
