The Ambassador of the United States of America in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Michael J. Murphy, welcomed the swift establishment of BiH’s government and that politicians and parties should now tackle the problems of the citizens and work do what is necessary for the country to achieve progress on its Euro-Atlantic path.

Murphy said it is also encouraging to see the parties in the government discuss programmes and what needs to be done.

“This requires compromise and consensus. We have seen how there are attempts by people in power to work on it, and it is not simple. It won't always go well, but the atmosphere is much better than it was four years ago. The most important thing is that the officials in power roll up their sleeves and work on what they promised to the citizens. They expect from them the implementation of reforms so that Bosnia and Herzegovina will progress in Euro-Atlantic integration”, said Murphy in an interview for Bosnia and Herzegovina. edition of “Vecernji list”.

He rejected claims that Western embassies, the international community and the US play an active role in the formation of the government, stressing that such decisions are made by political parties and their leaders.

Murphy stressed the importance of forming a functional, effective government in BiH’s Federation (FBiH) entity.

He argued that FBiH should be taking the lead on Euro-Atlantic integration.

“However, because we did not have an elected Government for so long, we did not have responsible governance. That didn't happen. Therefore, some of the challenges, such as inflation, have not been solved and now they finally need to be solved. I hope that the parties that have the majority in the House of Representatives and the House of Peoples will form a Government of the Federation of BiH which will change that,” he said.

He noted that the US is closely following the developments and that, in case there are any attempts to block the process and prevent the formation of the government, “we have the capacity to take appropriate actions”.
