Cvijanovic has been under US government sanctions since July 2023. The measures include asset freezes and a travel ban to the United States.

The executive order under which she was sanctioned states that “the unrestricted entry of immigrants and non-immigrants into the United States who are not citizens would be detrimental to the interests of the United States,” and therefore, such entry is suspended, unless the Secretary of State or Secretary of Homeland Security determines otherwise.
Despite the sanctions, Cvijanovic was granted a US visa in April this year to attend an emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly.
