Zenica-Doboj Canton invests over 12 million marks in major police modernisation drive

Minister Emir Vraco confirmed that the Ministry has acquired three combat armoured vehicles for the first time, at a cost of approximately 4.7 million Bosnian marks (approx. € 2.4 million). Furthermore, over 2.3 million marks (approx. € 1.17 million) was allocated for 46 new service vehicles, including off-road and prisoner transport units.

This overhaul represents the first complete renewal of personal weaponry for officers since 1997, a move costing 1.5 million marks (approx. € 766,000). A further 5 million marks (approx € 2.55 million) was invested in new uniforms.

"We are continuing to invest in and strengthen the security system decisively and without compromise," Vraco stated. He noted that the modernisation extends beyond hardware to include IT upgrades, drones, and human resources. Following the recruitment of 223 new officers, an additional 195 candidates are expected to begin training at the Police Academy shortly.

Cantonal Prime Minister Nezir Pivic highlighted that last year was designated as a year of security investment, with total spending exceeding 12 million marks (approx. € 6.13 million). He also announced a salary increase for police and public sector employees within the next few months.

Adis Imamovic, Head of the Uniformed Police Sector, emphasised that maintaining a professionally equipped and trained force remains a strategic priority. This systematic strengthening aims to ensure the police can effectively meet the security challenges of a modern society while remaining firmly at the service of the citizens.
