The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina said on Friday that it has issued a ruling lifting the detention of suspect Nenad Nesic, while imposing certain restrictive measures, according to the official website of the judicial institution. This means that Nesic was released from custody immediately, as the decision takes effect upon issuance, the Court of BiH explained to N1.

Nesic is now obliged to comply with the following restrictions imposed upon his release:

  • Travel ban
  • Mandatory periodic reporting to the competent state authority
  • Prohibition of contact and meetings with certain individuals, in accordance with Article 126.a of the BiH Criminal Procedure Code.

These measures were imposed by the Court of BiH in the case “Sanjin Avdic and others”, based on a request from the BiH Prosecutor’s Office.

The imposed restrictions may remain in place as long as necessary, i.e., until a new court decision is made. The justification for their continuation will be reviewed every two months. The suspect has been warned that detention may be reimposed if he violates the restrictions.

The former minister was arrested on December 26, 2024, as part of an investigation led by the BiH Prosecutor’s Office in cooperation with the Organized Crime Directorate of the RS Ministry of Interior. Alongside Nesic, the authorities also arrested Milan Dakic, Director of the public company “Putevi RS”, Mladen Lucic, and four other individuals.

The suspects are under investigation for multiple criminal offenses, including conspiracy to commit criminal acts, money laundering, abuse of official position or authority, and accepting bribes. According to the investigation, it is suspected that as officials of “Putevi RS” and individuals conducting business with the company, they committed the alleged crimes.
