European Conservatives concerned about Dodik’s destabilization of BiH

The ongoing destabilization of Bosnia and Herzegovina by Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik is causing serious concern among members of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group, the political group announced two days before the start of the EU Parliament session, which will partly be dedicated to BiH.

“We are concerned about the continued destabilization of Bosnia and Herzegovina carried out by the leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Milorad Dodik, and we reject all actions that lead toward secession,” the ECR said in a statement announcing a debate on the country’s EU integration process, which they described as “painfully slow.”
The European Conservatives and Reformists also announced constructive participation in the Srebrenica commemoration.
“ECR pays tribute to the victims of this organized crime of genocide and expresses deep condolences for the enduring pain and suffering carried by the survivors and the families of the murdered throughout their lives. We support all efforts aimed at the recovery of affected communities, the discovery and identification of the victims’ remains, and holding those responsible to account,” the statement reads. The group is led by the Brothers of Italy party of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and is the fourth largest in the EU Parliament.

The European Parliament has scheduled a commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide for Monday afternoon, during which representatives of the European Commission, European Council, European Parliament, and political groups in the parliament will speak about the crime. The debate on the Resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina is on the agenda for Tuesday evening’s plenary session, with a vote on the document scheduled for Wednesday at noon.
The Resolution reaffirms strong support for the country’s European perspective, welcomes the decision to open accession negotiations, but also expresses concern about the stagnation of reforms and secessionist rhetoric from Republika Srpska, describing it as a threat to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s stability and European path.
Part of the main text, which was previously defined and adopted at a session of the Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET), includes a series of amendments, among them those submitted by a Croatian MEP, which call for equality among the three constituent peoples and all citizens, reform of the electoral law in line with the European Convention on Human Rights and the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as the protection of the cultural and linguistic rights of minorities.
