A young man from Bosnia's northwestern town of Bihac sent a shocking message via social networks, threatening he would make the same scenario from the Belgrade school shooting happen in his own school. Police swiftly reacted after the online post was reported by citizens and school principal.
Speaking at a press conference, police commissioner in the Una-Sana Canton Jusuf Mesic said the police took measures immediately and informed the competent prosecutor about the case.
The case was taken over by the Federation's Police Administration, as one of the young man's parent is the administration's employee.
“I would like to recall that we also took measures on October 7, 2022 and acted within the scope of our competencies, because the same person said he raped a girl and threatened he would do it again. Cantonal Prosecutor's Office was informed about it as well. He was a juvenile person then and competent prosecutor interrogated him and decided to terminate the investigation,” Mesic told a press conference.
After the post in question appeared it quickly spread across social networks, causing fear and panic among the citizens.
It came a day after the horrific incident in Belgrade, when a 13-year-old pupil opened fire on his classmates, leaving eight children and a security guard dead, injuring several others.
“We are informing all students of our school as well as their parents that there is no need for panic over the situation that emerged following the post of our student Z.A. Competent bodies were timely informed and reacted in line with their competencies,” Bihac school principal wrote in a statement on Thursday.
