The U.S.-led airstrike in Syria is in breach of the UN charter, and will lead to chaos in international relations, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during a phone conversation.
The two leaders condemned Saturday’s airstrikes, saying the new developments have “seriously damaged the prospects for a political settlement in Syria,” said Kremlin press release on Sunday.
The U.S., the U.K. and France launched the airstrikes targeting Syrian chemical weapons facilities on Saturday, allegedly as a response to the use of chemical weapons against Syrians by President Bashar al-Assad.
On the request of Russia, a UN Security Council session took place the same day. A resolution to condemn the airstrikes has, however, been denied, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
