A Bosnian citizen has been in an extradition custody since March 2018, awaiting court verdict on his extradition to Tunisia, the Croatian Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Justice confirmed. The Bosnian was arrested based on Tunisian Interpol arrest warrant on suspicion of the murder of a member of Hamas on the territory of Tunisia.

“After the arrest, he was set an extradition custody for the purpose of realization of the extradition procedure which is currently in the decision-making phase before the competent court,” said the Croatian Justice Ministry.

The person in question is A.C. with Bosnian citizenship, who was arrested at the Zagreb airport while connecting the flight from Sarajevo to Vienna. He was sought by the Tunisian authorities on suspicion of involvement in the murder of a Hamas’ expert and engineer Mohammed Zawahri, and his involvement in terrorism.

According to Jutarnji List daily, his extradition is under question because he faces a death penalty in Tunisia due to the seriousness of offences he was charged with, however, Croatia does not have a death penalty.

The daily learns that the Bosnian citizen opposes his extradition to Tunisia and denies his involvement in the crimes the Tunisian judiciary charges him with.

Mohammed Zawahri is a former pilot and an engineer who was killed in Tunisia in 2016, ever since the search for the perpetrators of Zawahri’s murder is ongoing. Zawahiri was targeted due to his involvement in the development of unmanned aircraft technology for the military wing of the Palestinian organization Hamas.
