Bosnia's Ambassador to Israel Jelena Rajakovic dismissed on Friday the allegations about the embassy's staff attending the opening ceremony of the US Embassy in Jerusalem this week.

“I responsibly claim that no staff of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina didn't attend any part of the US Embassy's opening, which was followed by certain programme and reception, so neither the opening ceremony nor the reception,” said the ambassador.

The information about Rajakovic's attendance of the ceremony triggered a reaction of the Palestinian community in Bosnia, which called on the state authorities to investigate the accuracy of these allegations.

The ambassador explained that she did, however, attend a reception organized by the Foreign Ministry of Israel on May 13, organized in honour of the US President and his family, the US senators, congressmen and other foreign diplomats in that country. She stressed that these were two separate events.

“Since we are speaking about a very delicate matter, regarding the relation between two countries, I would like to remind that the stance of Bosnia and Herzegovina on this issue, to support the idea of existence of two independent states, Israel and Palestine, which should live in peace and prosperity next to each other…”, added Rajakovic.

The US decision to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and demonstrations it caused among Palestinians, sparked the international reactions, including those of some European leaders.

Bosnia's Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak and Chairman of Bosnia's Presidency Bakir Izetbegovic earlier said they were not familiar with the presence of Bosnia's ambassador at the embassy opening ceremony.
