Turkish intelligence agencies have received a tip saying Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may be assassinated during his appearance at a rally for Turkish European diaspora that will take place in Sarajevo but Bosnia’s Security Minister Dragan Mektic said no such tip ever reached Bosnian authorities.
The controversial information apparently came from Turkish citizens living in the Macedonian capital of Skopje and claims the apparent assassins were Turks.
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister and government spokesman, Bekir Bozdag, said Erdogan is not someone who is afraid of death. In his tweet he said Erdogan was the Turkish President, the leader of the Turkish nation, the keeper of justice, the courageous voice of the suppressed and the one who loves his people, flag and country.
He also said that authorities know about the circles whose desire is to destroy the President and reminded that the President has so far overcome many threats and obstacles and destroyed many traps and games. He will continue to do that, Bozdag said.
“Information about the assassination of our President are nothing new,” he said and added that Recep Tayyip Erdogan was not a leader who will change his mind because of death threats or fear of death. He will continue walking down his path, Bozgad said.
But Dragan Mektic, Bosnia’s Security Minister, told N1 on Saturday no such information has reached his ministry.
“It would be realistic to expect Turkish security agencies to inform us about such tips if they have them, so we can together work on removing any kind of threats to the physical integrity of President Erdogan,” Mektic said.
As far as Bosnia’s security agencies are concerned, everything is all right, he confirmed.
