Burial remains of 32 persons have been prepared for the collective funeral in Potocari Memorial site amid the sad anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, July 11, said Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Missing Persons Institute Spokesperson Lejla Cengic.

“Burial remains of 32 victims have been prepared for the funeral in Potocari, on July 11. This is not the final number and it could increase in the next 30 days. There are three minors and one woman among the identified victims,” Cengic said. “The woman was in her 20’s and was six months pregnant. She was killed with her husband who was 22 at the time.”

The remains were found in 2016, in a mass grave near the town of Vlasenica, eastern Bosnia.

Preparations for the Peace March have also been underway for the past month. The march, which has been organized since 2005, marks the killing of Bosniaks who survived after the fall of Srebrenica in July 1995 and tried to reach the territory controlled by the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, around the City of Tuzla.

Every year the march gathers around 5,000 participants. The Peace March 2018 is one of the biggest events marking the anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide. So far, 6,575 victims of the genocide have been buried in the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial, while around 1,000 victims are still missing.

The war in Bosnia lasted from 1992 to 1995. It ended by the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
